Small Expressions is an annual juried exhibition showcasing contemporary small-scale works (not to exceed 15 inches in any dimension) using fiber techniques in any media. Small in scale but visually compelling, HGA’s Small Expressions 2025 exhibit features thirty-six works by artists from eighteen states and three countries that speak to the intricacy of expression, intimacy of design, thoughtful communication, and visual excitement. The artists selected for exhibition create a big impact through small works.  

 The exhibition was juried by Tommye McClure Scanlin, Professor Emerita at the University of North Georgia, Dahlonega, where she began the weaving program in the early 1970s. She explored different ways to create imagery with weaving until at last embracing handwoven tapestry as her medium of choice three decades ago. She is the author of The Nature of Things: Essays of a Tapestry Weaver and Tapestry Design Basics and Beyond: Planning and Weaving with Confidence.

 Registration Fee: 

$15 - HGA Student, Individual, Household, & Professional Artist Members
$25 - All Others

The Juror's Talk will be conducted via HGA's Zoom platform. Registration to watch the event live closes one hour prior to the start of the program. Those who register afterwards, as well as those who attended the event live, will receive access to an "on demand" recording of the event. A link will be emailed to all registrants 24 hours after the event ends, and the recording will be available for 30 days.
