Learn Chair Caning at the Settlers Museum of SWVA

Do you have an antique chair from a beloved relative with a broken caned seat that you would love to have back in service in your home, but think that caning a chair is too difficult? Here is a
workshop just for you to experience the artistry of seat weaving. In this 1-day workshop, you will learn to weave the Appalachian traditional 7-step method on a wooden form. Lessons
learned in the workshop provide you with the skills to weave a square or rectangular seat in a chair or stool. If you decide you like seat weaving and wish to expand your knowledge of seat
weaving techniques, longer classes on your chair or stool are available. More complicated shapes or patterns will also be presented and discussed. There is a small materials fee.
