Πριν από 30 χρόνια, σ’ έναν γαλαξία πολύ-πολύ μακρινό και μεταξύ του 6ου και του 7ου (6-7) ούζου, γεννήθηκε μια ιδέα. Να κάνουμε τα δικά μας πάρτι, με τη μουσική που μας αρέσει και που δεν ακουγόταν πουθενά αλλού στη μικρή μας πόλη. Και εγένετο SUGAR, το μουσικό παιδί του Γιώργου και του Χρίστου. Το μουσικό αυτό παιδί συνδύαζε : • την αγαπημένη britpop, με εξειδίκευση σε συγκροτήματα άγνωστα αλλά που σύντομα γίνονταν διάσημα. • την ηλεκτρονική μουσική που τότε αποκτούσε προσωπικότητα και την αγαπούσαμε κάθε μέρα και περισσότερο. • ένα safe space συμπερίληψης για όλ@ όσ@ είχαν διάθεση για διασκέδαση. 30/4/1996 — το πρώτο Sugar Party, σε έναν χώρο στη Σολωμού, στα Εξάρχεια, απέναντι από το Αν. Ο χώρος είχε γεμίσει με φρέσκα λουλούδια και το φανταστικό flyer το είχε φτιάξει ο Δημήτρης Ποιος ήταν εκεί ? Για τα επόμενα 10 χρόνια, τα Sugar parties τα έβρισκες σε μαγαζιά όπως Mad, Decadence, Βενζίνα, Fantaseed, Gaze At, Alarm (Κούκος), Net (Club22), Street (Χανιά) κλπ. Ενεργά μέλη των Sugar έγιναν ο Αναστάσης και ο Νικόλας. Και τι δεν έγινε μέσα σε αυτά τα χρόνια: • live με συγκροτήματα όπως οι Mono, οι Boutique, οι Environmental Science κ.α. • πάρτι με καλεσμένα groups όπως οι Cardigans και οι My Life Story. • πανελλαδικές πρώτες εκτελέσεις, όπως το Born Slippy, και παγκόσμιες όπως το Lovefool. • πάρτι που τα έσοδα πήγαν στον αγώνα κατά του HIV. • ένα flyer μας βραβεύτηκε πανευρωπαϊκά. • στα πάρτι μας γνωρίστηκαν άνθρωποι που σημάδεψαν και άλλαξαν την εναλλακτική νυχτερινή Αθήνα Η ψυχή μας άκουγε κιθάρες και η καρδιά μας χτύπαγε στα 125 bpm ενώ η μουσική ήταν πάντα updated. What if we threw our own parties? With the music we love. Music that nobody plays in our small city. And so SUGAR was born, the musical brainchild of Giorgos and Christos. This musical child blended: • a deep love for britpop, with a special focus on unknown bands that were soon becoming famous • the electronic music that was just starting to develop its own personality and which we fell more and more in love with every day • a safe space of inclusion for @ll who were in the mood for fun On April 30th, 1996, the very first Sugar Party took place in a venue on Solomou Street in Exarchia, just across from An Club. The space was filled with fresh flowers, and the amazing flyer had been designed by Dimitris. Who was there? For the next ten years, Sugar parties could be found in venues like Mad, Decadence, Venzina, Fantaseed, Gaze At, Alarm (Koukos), Net (Club22), Street (Chania) and more. Anastasis and Nikolas became active members of the Sugar family. So much has happened over the years? • live shows with bands like Mono, Boutique, Environmental Science and others • parties with guest groups such as The Cardigans and My Life Story • Greek premieres of tracks like Born Slippy, and even world premieres like Lovefool • parties where the proceeds went to the fight against HIV • one of our flyers even won a pan-European award • and at our parties, people met who would go on to shape and redefine alternative nightlife in Athens Our souls always tuned to the sound of guitars and our hearts beat steadily at 125 bpm, while the music was always updated AND NOW?
