The Necks return to Athens for two evenings at Parnassos Literary Society.
The Necks are recognised as one of the most distinctive and influential groups in contemporary improvised music.
For over three decades, the Australian trio - Chris Abrahams (piano), Lloyd Swanton (bass), and Tony Buck (drums) - have developed a highly individual musical practice grounded in collective listening, duration, and the gradual shaping of form.
Their performances are entirely improvised and never repeated.
Each night consists of two continuous sets of approximately 45 minutes, with no pre-composed material.
The music is shaped in real time through repeated motifs, subtle shifts, and layering, in close relation to the acoustics of the space.
The work of The Necks places emphasis on concentration and attentive listening, unfolding through the long-established interaction between the three musicians.
Each night constitutes a complete and self-contained work.
The two performances are distinct and non-repeating.
