SONORA-Organization for Music Therapy & Research invites the team of Louis Armstrong Center for Music & Medicine from Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital (New York), for an intensive training seminar on music therapy for premature babies in NICUs as well as for the bonding between infants and caregivers.

The team
Dr. Joanne Loewy, DA, LCAT, MT-BC, Music therapist, Director of the Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine, Associate Professor at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, Family Medicine and Community Health. Co-editor in Chief of the journal 'Music and Medicine' and Founding Member of the International Association for Music and Medicine. Instituted the first Sounds-Rhythm, Breath and Lullaby international training.

Dr. Aimee Telsey, MD, Medical Doctor-Neonatologist, Associate Director, Division of Newborn Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital. She has been applying integrative medical therapies into NICU practice for many years, and she served on the original team that integrated music therapy into the NICU at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Dr. Andrew Rossetti, MMT, LCAT, Music therapist, Coordinator, music therapy in Radiology Oncology, Mount Sinai Βeth Israel Hospital & Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine. He has developed several Environmental Music Therapy (EMT) programs globally. On the faculty at University in Barcelona, and at Montclair State University, NJ, US.

Ann-Marie Dassler, RN, FNP, MSM, Nurse Practitioner-NICU practitioner in Mount Sinai Beth Israel for over 22 years and strong advocate for music therapy. Faculty at Bloomfield College, BSN nursing program.


TIER 1 (for music therapists and other health professionals)
Friday Feb 15, 2019, “Leto” Maternity Clinic (conference room) 9.30am-6pm:
• Review of the role of music therapy in perinatal medicine based on research and best evidence-based practices in neuro-psychological level for premature infants and their care-givers during the perinatal period from pregnancy to birth, and especially, in the NICU setting and beyond.
• Examples of Environmental Music Therapy applications in the Intensive Care Unit.
• Experiential music psychotherapy as an intervention for caregivers with traumatic experiences.

TIER 2 (for music therapists and health professionals who have already attended Tier 1)
Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 Feb, 2019, Attikon University Hospital, NICU Unit, 10am-6pm
• Hands-on practice on First Sound methods for premature babies and their caregivers (including antepartum patients), especially in modulating the traumatic or disorganized experience of the NICU environment. Emphasis will be given to music therapeutic interventions for infants, parents and NICU’s environment (Environmental Music Therapy).
• Evaluation of the programme
