On her first European tour following the Grammy Awards, two-time consecutive Grammy nominee for Best Jazz Vocal Album, Christie Dashiell comes with her quartet to Greece for the very first time, bringing her undeniable magic to Athens. A singular singer and composer—positioned where jazz meets rhythm & blues, soul, and gospel—Christie Dashiell, with just three personal albums to her name, has achieved what many artists spend decades trying to accomplish: reaching the top tiers of the charts and earning two consecutive Grammy nominations over the past two years. The multi-talented Christie Dashiell was born in Washington, DC and raised in Greenville, North Carolina. She is the third of four musically gifted children in a family deeply rooted in music—her father, jazz bassist Carroll Dashiell Jr., and her mother, a singer/pianist. Christie stood out from early childhood for her voice. She is a graduate of the renowned Howard University and the Manhattan School of Music. While at Howard, she participated in the acclaimed vocal ensemble Afro Blue, which appeared and excelled on NBC’s vocal-group competition “The Sing-Off.” Christie received DownBeat Student Music Awards honors twice, as a soloist and as best vocalist. In 2015 she reached the semifinal round of the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Vocals Competition. The following year she released her debut album “Time All Mine,” earning strong reviews and high placements on the Billboard charts, while also making JazzTimes’ list of 50 top critics’ picks. Gradually, she began touring with her quartet and became known worldwide. At the same time, she worked for a period with the historic and celebrated vocal ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock, as well as with many other artists. She appeared in “The Ever Fonky Lowdown” project with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and Wynton Marsalis, and is also a standout member of the remarkable project “Black Lives: From Generation to Generation.” In 2024, with the invaluable support of the great Dianne Reeves, Christie Dashiell released the exceptional album “Journey in Black,” which placed among the five Grammy contenders for vocal jazz for 2025. Last year, she received a call from the leading drummer, producer, and composer Terri Lyne Carrington, who shared her idea of reviving the historic 1960 album “We Insist!—Freedom Now Suite” by the legendary Max Roach, Abbey Lincoln, and Oscar Brown Jr., in light of today’s intense political events and conditions reminiscent of that era. For Christie Dashiell, even the idea of “stepping into Abbey Lincoln’s shoes” was both daunting and intriguing. Alongside Terri Lyne, they assembled top musicians and created the now-renowned “We Insist 2025,” a contemporary, multi-layered masterpiece—also nominated for a Grammy at the 2026 Awards. Still glowing from music’s biggest celebration, the remarkable Christie Dashiell comes to Europe and is introduced to Athens and the city’s jazz scene from Friday 6 through Monday 9 March. With her are the outstanding bassist and her collaborator from Black Lives, Reggie Washington, the exceptional pianist Tony Tixier, and the incomparable drummer Arnaud Dolmen.
