Blue Stars
Blue Stars is what happens when four friends from different corners of the Athens scene decide to start a band just for the fun of it. Claire Campbell, Andrea DeMarcus, Joe Rowe, and Dan Nettles—each a songwriter with their own orbit—began meeting a few times a month to share new tunes, build parts for each other, and see what kind of light might spill out.

It’s a side project, sure, but the kind that takes on a life of its own. Every voice changes the song, every song changes the band. The sound drifts somewhere between folk, pop, and dream logic—familiar but a little mysterious, like a melody you almost remember. No agenda and no grand plan, Blue Stars are four songwriters chasing the spark that only happens together.

Jacob Morris
Jacob Morris, a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter, is revisiting his 2012 album Moths with a deluxe reissue (CD & digital) out now via Strolling Bones Records.

Morris began playing cello at age four, growing up in a musical family with his father, a renowned luthier and picker. After relocating to Athens, Georgia, in 2005, he immersed himself in the city’s vibrant music scene, performing with Vic Chesnutt, Liz Durrett, Ham 1, Madeline, and Patterson Hood of Drive-By Truckers. He now resides just outside Durham, North Carolina.

Moths was recorded over several years, beginning with basic tracks—lead vocals and acoustic guitar—at Loney John Hutchins’ home studio. Most takes were first or second passes, later expanded through collaborations with friends and fellow musicians in Nashville, including contributions from HAM1, Madeline, and Chelsea Crowell.

The result is a deeply collaborative record that reflects the close-knit friendships formed through hanging out, playing, and recording music. Patterson Hood called Moths a “stellar debut” and one of his favorite albums of 2012.

Described as a rare blend of cosmic musicianship, Jacob Morris’ sound has been compared to Nick Drake, George Harrison, and Kevin Ayers—artists whose music gently washes over listeners rather than demanding attention. As Jay Gonzalez of Drive-By Truckers puts it, Morris is “of that rare breed of cosmic magician/musician whose music washes over you instead of clubbing you over the head.”
