Στη έκθεση «Η κρυμμένη εικόνα» παρουσιάζονται έργα έντεκα, ανερχόμενων και ήδη αναγνωρισμένων ζωγράφων. Παρά τις διαφορετικές πορείες τους, υπάρχουν στοιχεία που συνδέουν την εργασία και τις καλλιτεχνικές επιλογές τους. Πρόκειται για στοιχεία που περιγράφουν μία σύγχρονη, ξεχωριστή διαδρομή μέσα στην ιστορία της ζωγραφικής. Προδίδουν έναν αναστοχασμό για τη φύση και τη λειτουργία των αναπαραστάσεων, τελικά και της ίδιας της ζωγραφικής, σε μια εποχή κατακλυσμένη από κάθε είδους εικόνες σε ένα ακραία διεσταλμένο ψηφιακό σύμπαν, που απαιτούν από τους καλλιτέχνες μια νέου τύπου διαπραγμάτευση μαζί του.
Ανάμεσα στις επιλογές που τους συνδέουν, περιλαμβάνονται η επιμονή στη ρυθμολογία της γραφής με σκοπό την αναπαράσταση του μικροσκοπικού, αν όχι του φαινομενικά αδιάφορου. Αρνούνται, χωρίς να αγνοούν, από τη μία πλευρά την αφηγηματική διάσταση της ζωγραφικής και, από την άλλη, τη χειρονομιακή γραφή ή τη μαθητεία στις πολλές εκδοχές της αφαίρεσης. Τοποθετημένοι ανάμεσα σε αυτές τις μεγάλες διαδρομές της τέχνης τους, επιλέγουν να διατηρήσουν την εικόνα σαν πλοηγό χωρίς ωστόσο να την καταστήσουν κυρίαρχη. Αυτή η εικόνα κρύβεται, λανθάνει κατά κάποιο τρόπο στα έργα τους, αλλά δεν απουσιάζει. Αποτελεί το ποιητικό αίτιό τους, την αφορμή για νέες εικαστικές διατυπώσεις, για την ανάπτυξη και την εκτύλιξη του προσωπικού τους ιδιώματος, του δικού τους τρόπου απεικόνισης του κόσμου και των πραγμάτων.

In the exhibition “The hidden image”, works by eleven emerging as well as established artists are presented. Despite their diverse artistic trajectories, there are elements that connect their work and aesthetic choices. These elements point to a contemporary, distinct path within the broader history of painting. They reveal a reflection on the nature and function of representation—and ultimately on painting itself—at a time overwhelmed by every kind of image within an extremely expanded digital universe, which demands from artists a new kind of negotiation with it.

Among the choices that link the participating artists is their insistence on the rhythmic structure of pictorial “writing,” aimed at representing the microscopic or even the seemingly insignificant. They reject—without ignoring—on the one hand the narrative dimension of painting and, on the other, the gestural mark-making or the various forms of abstraction. Positioned between these major artistic trajectories, they choose to retain the image as a guide, without allowing it to become dominant. This image is concealed, latent in their works, yet never absent. It constitutes their poetic impetus, the starting point for new visual articulations, for the development and unfolding of their personal idiom—their own way of depicting the world and its objects.
