John Gorka is een singer-songwriter die beroemd is om zijn rijke, expressieve bariton. Hij blijkt één van de leidende figuren van een nieuwe folk beweging die halverwege de jaren ’80 opkomt. Gorka begint zijn carrière echter al tijdens zijn studie in Pennsylvania, waar hij optreedt in een plaatselijk koffiehuis totdat hij een eigen groep vormt: de Razzy Dazzy Spasm Band. Daarmee treedt John op langs de oostkust voordat hij zich in Texas vestigt en in 1984 de prestigieuze New Folk Award van het Kerrville Folk Festival wint. In de loop van de jaren treedt Gorka op met artiesten als Michael Manring, Lucy Kaplansky, Shawn Colvin en Susan Vega. In 2010 sluit hij zich zelfs aan bij Lucy Kaplansky en Eliza Gilkyson om de folk supergroep Red Horse te vormen.

John is al eens in De Amer geweest, hij heeft toen velen van ons weten te raken. Een zeer bescheiden, lieve man die de kunst van het muziek maken bezit. Hij zingt zichzelf recht je hart in.
