During Ramadan, as you all know by now, we organize a get-together for an Iftar. This year, our Iftar will include a cultural visit to Saida. Saida was one of the most important Phoenician cities and may have been the oldest. There are many landmarks to visit. Our focus will be on the following:
-Sidon Sea Castle: The Crusaders built it in 1228 AD on a huge rock in the sea whereupon the Phoenicians had previously built a temple.
-Audi Soap Museum: The factory dates back to the 17th century and is now transformed into a museum.
-Debbane Palace: Debbane Palace is a historical residence built in 1721 AD and is open to the public for visitors to witness the Arab-Ottoman architecture and details of that era.
-El Kikhya Mosque: a striking Ottoman-era mosque, famous for its grand architecture, elegant minaret, and rich historical significance in the heart of Saida.
-Historical Roman Orthodox Church (if open): Its date of construction is unknown. However, it is believed that it was constructed over the debris of an older church.
-Old Souk: Between the Sea Castle and the Castle of St. Louis stretches the old town and a picturesque vaulted old market.
-Khan el Franj: was built by Emir Fakhreddine in the 17th century to accommodate French merchants and goods in order to develop trade with Europe. This is a typical khan with a large rectangular courtyard and a central fountain surrounded by covered galleries.
After such an interesting and cultural tour of the city, we will go for Iftar at a nice restaurant where the tables are set outside in the garden with greenery and water fountains.

IFTAR A SIDON
Pendant le Ramadan, comme vous le savez tous maintenant, nous organisons une rencontre pour un Iftar. Cette année, notre Iftar comprendra une visite culturelle à Saida. Saida était l'une des villes phéniciennes les plus importantes et pourrait avoir été la plus ancienne. Il y a de nombreux sites à visiter. Notre attention se portera sur les éléments suivants :
-Château de la mer de Sidon : Les croisés l'ont construit en 1228 après J.-C. sur un énorme rocher en mer, où les Phéniciens avaient auparavant construit un temple.
-Musée du savon Audi : L'usine remonte au XVIIe siècle et est maintenant transformée en musée.
-Palais Debbane : Le palais Debbane est une résidence historique construite en 1721 après J.-C. et est ouvert au public pour que les visiteurs puissent voir l'architecture arabo-ottomane et les détails de cette époque.
-Mosquée El Kikhya : une mosquée impressionnante de l'époque ottomane, célèbre pour sa grande architecture, son élégant minaret et sa riche importance historique au cœur de Sidon.
-Église orthodoxe romaine historique (si ouverte) : Sa date de construction est inconnue. Cependant, on pense qu'elle a été construite sur les débris d'une église plus ancienne.
-Vieux souk : Entre le château de la mer et le château de Saint-Louis s'étend la vieille ville et un pittoresque vieux marché voûté.
-Khan el Franj : a été construit par l'émir Fakhreddine au XVIIe siècle pour accueillir des marchands et des marchandises français afin de développer le commerce avec l'Europe. Il s'agit d'un khan typique avec une grande cour rectangulaire et une fontaine centrale entourée de galeries couvertes.
Après une visite aussi intéressante et culturelle de la ville, nous irons prendre l'Iftar dans un bon restaurant où les tables sont dressées à l'extérieur dans le jardin avec des verdure et des fontaines d'eau.
