The Jezzine District is home to several charming villages, known as some of Lebanon's premier summer destinations. Located at an average altitude of 950m, this region is rich in pine forests and lush orchards of fruit trees.
Our excursion will begin in the village of Machmouche, where we’ll:
•	Visit the historic 18th-century monastery, once the seat of the Maronite bishopric.
•	Explore the remains of a Byzantine settlement, noted for its man-made lake, supplied by the Litani River through a 16 km-long tunnel.

As we journey from Machmouche to Qattine, we’ll encounter fascinating sites along the way:
•	B. Balady, a local collective of landmine survivors now working in poultry farming, beekeeping, and herb cultivation.
•	Deir Machmouche Monastery, where our hike will begin after a guided tour.

Hike Options
•	Level 6 (14 km): A more challenging trail that ascends through Aytoule, before returning to Azour to join Level 3 for lunch.
•	Level 3 (7 km): A gentler trail winding through the scenic pine forests of the region.

After the hike, we’ll gather for lunch at a distinctive restaurant in Azour, part of the Blue Jay eco-tourism project, which also offers bed and breakfast accommodations in a natural setting.

WHERE:  Machmouche – Qattine - In the region of Jezzine
                   80 Km from Beirut - 1100 meters above sea level.

WHEN:  Saturday, January 10

MEETING TIME: 8:00 AM. Departure at 8:15 AM sharp.

There will be a breakfast stop along the way.

Excursion dans le district de Jezzine
Le district de Jezzine abrite plusieurs villages pittoresques, considérés parmi les plus belles destinations estivales du Liban. Située à une altitude moyenne de 950 m, la région est riche en forêts de pins et en vergers luxuriants.

Notre excursion commencera au village de Machmouché, où nous :
•	Visiterons le monastère historique du XVIIIe siècle, ancien siège de l’évêché maronite.
•	Découvrirons les vestiges d’un site byzantin, connu pour son lac artificiel alimenté par le fleuve Litani à travers un tunnel de 16 km.

En chemin vers Qattine, nous rencontrerons des lieux fascinants :
•	B. Balady, une coopérative de survivants de mines terrestres engagés aujourd’hui dans l’aviculture, l’apiculture et la culture des herbes.
•	Le monastère de Deir Machmouché, où nous débuterons notre randonnée après une visite guidée.

Options de randonnée
•	Niveau 6 (14 km) : Un parcours plus exigeant qui monte vers Aytoule, avant de revenir à Azour pour rejoindre le groupe du Niveau 3 au déjeuner.
•	Niveau 3 (7 km) : Un itinéraire plus doux à travers les forêts de pins de la région.

Après la randonnée, nous partagerons un déjeuner dans un restaurant typique à Azour, faisant partie du projet écotouristique Blue Jay, qui propose également des hébergements en chambres d’hôtes au cœur de la nature.
