INFORMATION ABOUT THE REGION
Baakline is a historic town in the Chouf District of Mount Lebanon, located about 45 kilometers southeast of Beirut at an elevation of around 850–920 meters. It was once the capital of the Maan emirs, especially under Emir Fakhreddine II, and remains a stronghold of the Druze community. The village is known for its cultural landmarks such as the Grand Serail (built in 1897, now the Baakline National Library), the palace of Sheikh Hussein Hamadeh, and Saint Elie Church. Baakline is also famous for its natural beauty, including rivers, reserves, waterfalls, and scenic hiking trails, making it a blend of heritage and nature.

Gharifeh lies in the same Chouf District, about 56 kilometers from Beirut and close to Beit ed-Dine, at an elevation of roughly 800 meters. The name is thought to derive from Syriac, meaning “cliff” or “extended mountains.” Gharifeh is surrounded by mountains and forests, and is well known for its olive oil production from ancient Roman-era olive trees. It also features archaeological and heritage sites such as an old bridge connecting Chouf to Iqlim el Kharroub, stone mills, and Roman jars, reflecting its deep historical roots.

To offset the carbon emissions of this event, two cedar trees will be planted on Falougha Mountain.
Event of Green Steps by the NGO “Oaks & Cedars”.
