Anjar dates back to the early 8th century AD, during the Umayyad period. Unlike Tyre or Byblos, which have been continuously inhabited for thousands of years, Anjar flourished for only a few decades. It is unique in Lebanon as it represents one single historical period, with the walls of the Great Palace and traces of forty towers still largely intact. Main Destinations: • Anjar Umayyad Ruins: Early 8th century AD, a unique glimpse into the Umayyad period. Walls of the Great Palace and clues to 40 towers still visible. • Anjar Hima / Reserve: A beautiful natural area with meadows, farms, and a river source. Hike Details: • Level: 4 (moderate) • Distance: ~7 km • Explore fields, small farms, and meet local farmers with diverse cultures and dress. • Ascend hills for a panoramic view of the Bekaa Valley. • Visit two caves, an old water mill, and wooded areas along the trail. Lunch: • Enjoy a delicious meal prepared by locals, surrounded by nature and history.
