- **Event Description**: Join us for a limited series of Lindy-hop lessons in the park!  Lindy hop is a partnered swing dance that was popular in the 1930s and '40s.  The lessons will be fully beginner friendly, but we will also be trying to make them interesting for intermediate dancers as well.  No prior dance experience necessary, and you don't need a partner to attend.  We will be rotating partners throughout the lesson as dancing with lots of different people is the best way to learn.  Each lesson will be followed by a social dance where you can practice what you've learned and get to know others in the local dance community.  

The theme of this series will be differentiating between 6- and 8-count moves.  Moves or patterns that span either 6 or 8 counts in the music are the most common in Lindy hop.  A lot of moves have both 6- and 8-count variations, but we're often used to doing a given move one way or the other.  In this series, we'll be focusing on leading and following the difference between 6- and 8-count variations of some common moves, and we'll hopefully cover some of the essential Lindy-hop moves along the way.  The lessons will build on each other to some degree, but they will be designed with the intention that one could drop into any of the lessons with no prior experience, so come to whichever ones work for your schedule!  

Meet at the Bandshell parking lot in Lithia Park in Ashland.  We will be dancing somewhere in that immediate vicinity as space allows.  

Lesson 6–7pm
Social dance 7–8pm (or later if we're having fun ?)

$5 suggested donation (free for students).  All proceeds will go to the Swing Society of Southern Oregon to help build the swing-dance community in our area.  

Your instructors:
Tyler and MacKenzie have been dancing the Lindy hop since 2019.  We are not professional instructors.  We are intermediate dancers ourselves who are just trying to create more swing-dance events in the area.  We will likely also be joined by some other members of the swing-dance community who will be helping out at various points.
