Home Educator Day

Join us at Woodhorn Museum for our next Home Educator day on Thursday 12 March.

Book a workshop to take part in with your child and explore the Museum for the rest of the day for free.

While you’re here, enjoy free activities including our mini museum on Upper Ground and little library in the café.

Our bookable workshops are:

10:30 – 11:45: Woodhorn Engineering challenge

Find out about coal, why it is important and the challenges of digging it out of the ground. Design and build a model transport system to move coal up and down a mine shaft and test it out to see how well it works. Recommended for young people working at age 8+


13:00 – 14:00: Working Down the Pit

Go back in time to 1918 and imagine you are 13 years old and it is your first day working down the pit. Find out what it was like for miners in the early 1900s and handle some of our mining objects. Recommended for young people working aged 6 -12.

Tickets: £4 per child per workshop (£6 with optional donation). Accompanying adults are FREE.

Spaces are limited and children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

Workshops will be led by members of our Learning Team.
