Few places in the Cascades feel as enchanted and storied as Indian Henry’s Hunting Ground. This is where the mountain opens its heart — wide green meadows, mirror-still tarns, and Mount Rainier rising like a myth just beyond reach. It is a pilgrimage hike — not because it is easy, but because the reward is reverent.

We’ll begin along Kautz Creek, winding our way through old growth, crossing streams, gaining elevation bit by bit until the forest parts and the world explodes into meadow. If the day is clear, the mountain will fill our sight, our breath, and our memory — an ancient presence standing calm and immense over all.

This is a serious elevation day — bring strong legs, extra snacks, and a sense of wonder. The wildflowers should be just beginning to open: avalanche lilies, valerian, lupine, and paintbrush. If we’re lucky, the air will smell of warm grass and snowmelt.

After the return, we’ll stop at Wildberry Restaurant in Ashford — home of Sherpa hospitality and some of the best berry cobbler anywhere in the foothills.

Kautz Creek to Indian Henry's Hunting Ground — Washington Trails Association

We'll meet in the north parking lot at the Green Lake Park and Ride next to the bus stop on 65th and directly under the I-5 freeway at 7 am. Since we are heading south, we can also stop off at the Tukwila Park and Ride at 7:30 am to either pick up additional riders or further coordinate rideshares. Rideshare for the day is $26 per person from the Green Lake Park and Ride and $22 per person from the Tukwila Park and Ride, and is paid to the driver of the vehicle.

Our estimated time of arrival at the trailhead is: 9:15 am

Yes, there are two separate fees regarding this event. The event fee, and then a rideshare if you are riding as a passenger with a driver.

Sorry, no doggies are allowed at any Tenderfoot Adventures events as per our insurance policy. We all love our fur babies, and I am sure that yours is amazing as well, but alas, there are no doggies allowed at any of our events.
