Village Marimba Classes - Winter/Spring 2019
Village Marimba for students and adults. Sue Ford is spreading the joy of playing marimba music in a community ensemble. Classes will be available to students from any school in Western North Carolina and adults of all ages. Village Marimba is a program of Asheville Rhythm, an organization that seeks to create a culture that promotes wellness through rhythm and bridges musical traditions through innovative collaborations.
In a 10-Week Session, students will:
Learn a variety of repertoire based on the group’s interest, including popular songs, multicultural songs and original music.
Work on proper mallet/stick technique, which is also applicable to other percussion instruments.
Have fun making music with other young people and their friends.
Work toward a big performance at the end of the session.
Winter/Spring session will begin on February 5 and end with performances on April 26 & 27.
All classes are held at Rainbow Community Center, 60 State Street in West Asheville. Students are expected to attend all classes in this session.
Level 1: Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:45-5:00 $250 for the 10 week session/ 20 classes For children grades 5-12*
Level 2: Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00-6:15 $250 for the 10 week session/ 20 classes For children grades 5-12*
Adults and mature teens: Wednesdays 5:00-6:15 $100 for the 10-week session/ 20 classes * Level 1 is for students with a beginner / intermediate skill level. Level 2 will be for advanced students and requires the approval of the instructor
Classes: February 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28; March 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21; April 2, 4, 9, 11, 23, 25No classes: March 26 & 28 (Rainbow’s spring break) and April 16 & 18 (Asheville City School and Evergreen’s spring break) Final informal performances: Friday, April 26 (in the auditorium for invited guests) and Saturday, April 27 from 9:00am to noon at the Asheville City Market.
