- **Event Description**: In conjunction with the Westwood Cohousing Community, we are hosting a house concert by “Jotown” Slanda from Detroit, MI, on June 8. The suggested donation will be $10, cash, collected at the event. Doors will open at 6:30 pm, and registration is required due to the size of the beautiful room at the Common House. The Westwood Cohousing Community is located at 43 Vermont Court in West Asheville. Directions and parking details will be sent to you after you register.

Jozef (Jotown) Slanda. He is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, astrologer, and writer from Detroit, Michigan. He has been in the entertainment industry for 45 years. 

In the 1970s, he recorded and toured with the Floaters, David Ruffin (The Temptations), The Detroit Emeralds, Chuck Jackson, John Edwards, Gwen McCrae, and many others. 

He began a solo career in the early 1980s, recording and performing his original music in nightclubs, corporate events, and private events. He also produced other artists, most notably Grammy-nominated New Age Pianist Jim Bajor. 

In 2008, he composed and performed the music for the film “Return of the Magi.” 

Since surviving a stroke in 2019, He has dedicated his life to using his music and stories of survival and healing to help others find meaning and magic in even the most difficult situations.

Recovering from his health crisis has made the time he has left very precious. He wants to spend that time using his music and stories to give people hope and inspiration. He believes that it is never too late to make your life matter and to do what you were meant to do.

He wrote and recorded his “What Kind of America” song to respond to the rising division he saw in our country. He says, “I know it sounds grandiose to think that my little song could make a difference, but it’s all I know how to do.”

He has been performing his “Looking For America” show at various venues this year. The show combines his original music with some hopeful cover songs. His intention is to use his songs and voice to give hope and inspiration to those who still believe in America and are willing to fight for it.
