Working with Domestic Violence: Assessment and Safety Planning with Confidence

Working with Domestic Violence: Assessment and Safety Planning with Confidence

Do feel equipped to assess for domestic violence with your clients?  Do you feel confident when creating a safety plan with them?

If you are in the mental health field, you are going to work with people that have been affected by domestic violence.  Unfortunately in the typical counseling or social work programs there is little taught about issues that arise when working with these victims and survivors and less about how to keep these clients safe.  There are small nuances that arise in violent relationships that a traditional safety plan may not take into account.  In this training, you will walk away:

Understanding the many different types of behaviors used to gain and maintain power and control in an intimate relationship

Understanding how to assess the severity of domestic violence

Knowing how to create a basic safety plan with your clients

Knowing how to assess and follow up on safety over time

How to use these assessments to create a treatment plan

This is a basic course to help you feel confident that you are not over looking safety concerns when your clients experience intimate partner violence and give you a framework for monitoring safety over the course of your work.    This course would be beneficial for Licensed Professional Counselors and candidates, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, social workers, victims advocates, and any other professional working with victims and survivors of domestic violence.  1.5 CEUs will be provided by completing this training.
