Jomon Event at SUMC
Jomon Lecture & Workshop
Master Potters Ifurai, Genya Murakami, and Ryujiro Oyabu
Simpson United Methodist Church is hosting master potters from Japan for a lecture and hands-on workshop in partnership with Studio Arts Boulder. "Jomon" means "cord pattern" and describes the decorative style of pottery made during this ancient era in Japan.
The event at Simpson United Methodist Church will include a lecture (free to attend), a potluck lunch, and a hands-on workshop (ages 12+). Learn ancient ceramics techniques of the Jomon era, starting with a coil pot and incorporating elemental symbols to create dramatic forms. Pottery students of all levels, including beginners, are invited to register.
