- **Event Description**: holiday season is a tender time for grief; in this interactive herbalism workshop we'll explore different herbal teas for support & care.About this Event"Though they're dry and in jars, the plants whisper even so reminding me, reminding us… We are not alone, not now, or ever." -Rosemary Gladstarthe holidays are an especially tender time for grief. join us Saturday November 22nd from 12:30-2:30pm at Pachamama5453 for an afternoon of herbalism that supports tending to and caring for the ways that our grief shows up.herbalism is the practice of being in relationship with plants as medicine and allies; embracing our roots as humans in reciprocity with the land. during this interactive workshop we'll learn about the herbs who ease our nervous systems and soften the edges of our grief. this is a great introductory activity for folks who are interested in just getting started or have dabbled. we'd also love to welcome herbalist and folks who have established relationships with herbs to share! herbalism offers tenderness to our wounds and invites us the space to pause, rest, breath and embody. sharing herbalism won't be to fix or resolve our grief but to discover how plants can support us and our loved ones through softening, slowing down, filling our cups, and making new herbal allies!we'll be collaborating with special guests and beloved friends, Alejandra and Andrea of Four Directions Cuisine, 5453 Pachamama Indigenious food science, and The Rooted Andina, who are so generously providing a beautiful place for us to gather.Chef Andrea is also offering delicious blue corn cookie packs to pre-order and pick up at the event!Pre-Order includes a 6 pack of blue corn sugar cookies (gf). place your order with sky at queerdeathandgrief@proton.me now through Nov 20th. Adopted by US Americans, she spent 29 years in the US disconnected from her Indigenous culture. While living in Wisconsin, Andrea started to reconnect with Native Indigenous cultures through food. She visited and learned from knowledge keepers within Oneida Nation and left with new relatives who included her in their community. This education has continued over the years and helped to shape the education garden, Pachamama5453. Co-founded with Alejandra (Tobar Alatriz) in Arvada, Colorado, the duo hosts an array of educational classes and workshops for youth, families and adults in the area of Indigenous sciences. Their most recent collaboration with Anythink Libraries was a workshop designed for families where participants learned how to start their own window sill herb garden utilizing repurposed household items such as milk jugs or egg crates. This also doubled as a lesson in diverting waste from landfills to lower individual and household waste putting in an effort to reduce stress on the global environment. As an entrepreneur, Andrea translates her experiences into food menus, educational workshops, speeches, and even a self published book, on a mission to keep traditional stories and knowledge alive without the colonial lens.
