Rising to 2,690m above sea level, Mount Longido stands just 15km from the Namanga border, welcoming hikers straight from the floor of the Rift Valley into a world of forest trails, open ridgelines, and expansive savannah views.

This hike is steep, rewarding, and deeply immersive. The trail winds through lush montane forest, rocky sections, and occasionally muddy stretches, gradually opening up to panoramic views of the Maasai Steppe. On clear days, the summit delivers sweeping vistas that stretch all the way to Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro, making this one of the most scenic short hikes in East Africa.

Trip Itinerary

Time 			Activity
04:00 am – Depart Nairobi
Early departure from Nairobi, heading south towards the Namanga border as dawn breaks over the plains.

07:00 am – Border Crossing & Drive to Trailhead
Clear immigration at Namanga and proceed to Longido town. Short drive to the trailhead at the base of the mountain.

08:30 am – Start the Hike
Begin the ascent through forested slopes and rocky sections. The climb is steady and fairly steep, with regular pauses to hydrate, pace, and take in the views.

01:00 pm – Summit Mount Longido (2,690m)
Reach the summit and enjoy a well-earned rest. On clear days, take in panoramic views of Mount Meru, Kilimanjaro, and the vast Tanzanian plains. Lunch at the top.

02:00 pm – Begin Descent
Descend via the same trail, moving faster as the terrain opens up.

04:30 pm – Finish Hike & Depart Longido
Wrap up the hike, freshen up, and begin the return journey to Nairobi.

10:00 pm – Arrive Back in Nairobi

What to wear and items to carry;

Comfortable running shoes or hiking boot
Hiking/gym pants (avoid jeans)
Polyester T-shirt (like the football jerseys) carry an extra one to change after the hike
Head-torch
A change of clothes after the hike
Sunglasses
Hat/cap
Camera
Binoculars
Drinking water (3litres)
Sunscreen (Arimis oK) and Insect repellant
Heavy snack or picnic Lunch 
Energy Bars
Poncho or a light Rain Jacket

Cancellation Policy
If you cancel more than 48 hours before your scheduled trip departure, a 50% of the fee will be charged.
If you cancel within 48 hours of your scheduled trip departure, no refund fees will be provided.
No shows are responsible for 100% of trip fees.
