Brian Bohne - Mount Kilimanjaro Climb
Mount Kilimanjaro Harambee Horizons
In Swahili harambe (harambee) means “Let’s pull together” to achieve a worthy accomplishment. An inspiring, unifying vision enhances harambee. The most prominent vista on the African horizon is Mt. Kilimanjaro. The awe-inspiring challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro provides symbolic motivation for Minnesotans to rally support for quality of life ascension of kids in Arusha, Tanzania. Hence, “Harambee Horizons.”
My passions and capabilities include encouraging cross-cultural understanding, enhancing democratic constitutional citizenship, building bridges to minimize Christian-Muslim conflict, and stimulating healthy fitness by means of soccer, hiking and biking.
I have been invited by St. Margaret's Academy, a primary/middle school supported by FOAE Friends of Africa Education, to be immersed in their school community for a full week, prior to our climb. I'll have the opportunity to introduce new English teaching techniques to teachers, work with 7th grade students on cultural geography and lead the student body in health & fitness activities. I will be bringing sports/fitness equipment and a variety of school supplies, some of which will be purchased in Africa. Contributions are welcome! Checks can be made out to Centennial Boosters and sent to:
