Curious about overshot weaving? Overshot is a twill-based weave structure that requires two shuttles and at least four harnesses. The weave comprises alternating picks of tabby (or plain) weave as a ground cloth between a pattern weft that overshoots or floats multiple warp ends, revealing decorative geometric motifs. Overshot weave patterns are appealing both to those who love history (it has long been used for coverlet patterns, including here in Arthurdale!) and modern-minded weavers who want to create intricate details in their work.

Many hobby weavers are interested in overshot but are intimidated by starting a project on their own. In this class with instructor Rachel Hellwarth, you can weave an overshot tea towel (15×20″). With the warp already on the loom, you can just show up to learn overshot weaving! This is a class for the beginner-novice level. While you can learn overshot without background weaving knowledge, you may find this class challenging. Suggested for those with some prior weaving experience. Ages 16+

When: June 25, 2026, 6pm-8pm
Where: 18 Q Rd. Arthurdale, WV 26520. The Loom Room entrance is the gray door located behind Center Hall. Parking is by the dumpster across A Road.
