- **Event Name**: Amish Education
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 12 Sep, 2026 at 10:30 am – Sat, 12 Sep, 2026 at 12:30 pm
- **Event Description**: A special event, “Amish Education,” will be held for a 2nd year at the Illinois Amish Heritage Center (IAHC) on Saturday, September 12.

The event is held in a 1920’s-era one-room schoolhouse at the new IAHC Living History Farm between Arcola and Arthur, Illinois.

The event is on Saturday, September 12, from 10:30 to 12:30, and includes a bag lunch. Pre-registration is required and the fee is $25 per adult (13+).

Guests will experience what it was like to attend a one-room Amish schoolhouse and learn how the Amish educate their children, historically and today. Singing, Bible reading, and prayer (in both English and German) will open the school “session.” This is followed by “roll call” and lessons in mathematics and problems, reading, spelling, Illinois history, and German. Guests will get to share their own memories of attending a one-room schoolhouse (those who did) or other memories of their elementary school days.

“Amish Education” is taught by a retired Amish schoolteacher and assisted by Amish historian, German, and singing instructors.

The event costs $25 and registration is by email to Rhonda Rhodes (Yoder) at rhodesr1968@gmail.com or by phone at (217) 273-7803.

The Illinois Amish Heritage Center is a nonprofit organization with a mission to “enhance the preservation, understanding, and appreciation of all aspects of the culture and heritage of the Amish people in Illinois from 1865 to the present.”

All proceeds benefit the IAHC.
