The show tells the story of a group of ordinary kids in Annapolis who are preparing for a local talent contest—but they’re convinced they don’t have any talent at all. When the mysterious Professor appears, she promises them help with a magical machine that can give them the talent they think they’re missing. As the kids begin to grow in confidence, they discover the real magic: the talent was inside them all along—they just had to believe in themselves. With a little ability, a bit of confidence and a lot of hard work, anything is possible.As the original show that inspired our company’s name, The Talent Machine is a truly special production and a beloved legacy that continues to hold a magical place in the hearts of everyone involved.It's Truly a Family Affair: The Talent Machine Family. Free parking available in Lot A.MEET OUR EXPERIENCED PRODUCTION TEAM and TMC ALUMNIDirector: Sarah Johansen -- Sarah performed with Talent Machine in more than 20 shows from 1998 to 2010, and this is her 11th time directing a show for the Company. Her day job is Director of Business Operations and Finance for the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. She loves her "cat daughter" Vega!Assistant Director: Catherine Osikowicz -- Catherine will soon graduate from Baylor University with a BFA in theater performance. She appeared in 17 shows with TMC and has assisted with four productions. She has five dogs and enjoys going on adventures with her fish, Guppy!Co-Music Director: Cyndi Wallman -- Cyndi has been a vocal and piano teacher at Stageworkz Theatre Arts Project in Millersville, MD, for 18 years, and has an amazing record of directing the music for 18 Talent Machine holiday shows and 17 summer shows. She believes laughing is the best part of life!Co-Music Director: Kelly Brown -- Kelly performed with TMC from 1996 to 2003 and she now writes, records and produces original music under moniker Planetary Coven. She performed in an international tour of the musical, HAIR, and now enjoys taking her dog, Romeo, paddleboarding and on other adventures.Guest ChoreographersLea Capps, President and Artistic Director, The Talent Machine Company -- Lea has performed at many regional theaters, on TV and at the White House. She has been at the helm of the Company for 25 years! Fun facts include that she was once a magician's assistant and her great-grandmother was a fortune-teller in a traveling circus.Vicki Smith, Owner, Stageworkz Theatre Arts Project -- Vicki has choreographed countless Talent Machine productions for the past 38 years, has performed across the US, Europe and South America and was a three-time winner on Ted Mack's Amateur Hour. She once water skiied with Wayne Newton and climbed the smokestack's at Baltimore's Power Plant in the Inner Harbor!Layne Cassidy -- Layne performed with TMC from 2007-2016, including a performance as Sheila in The Talent Machine Show in 2012. She earned a BFA in musical theater from Marymount Manhattan College, her favorite on stage role was Julia in The Wedding Singer, and she loves puzzles and reading.Sam Curbelo -- Sam started performing with TMC in 2001, including a stint as Patty in The Talent Machine Show in 2005. She now serves on the Company's Board of Directors. She is a physical therapist with R2P, helps with NeuroTour at the Hippodrome Theater and loves a double cartwheel.Erin Daniel -- Erin performed with Talent Machine from 2010 to 2018, and has directed or choreographed six TMC shows. She recently graduated with her master's in prosthetics and orthotics, has a personal record of balancing 13 spoons on her face, and her favorite dance style is tap.Natalie Dixon -- Natalie performed with TMC from 2014 to 2022, and she is working on her BFA in dance performance and choreography and a BS in dance science. She is also working on her Pilates certification and her family has fostered more than 100 dogs.David Grindrod -- David performed with TMC from 1999 to 2009, and now directs and choreographs shows at professional regional theaters across the country. He played Warren in the 2005 production of The Talent Machine Show. An associate of Baayork Lee, David has staged numerous production of A Chorus Line with her around the world.David Ossman -- David performed with TMC from 2010 to 2015, and has performed on Disney Fantasy Ships in shows like Aladdin, Frozen and Believe. He works at the Mermaid Oyster Bar in NYC at SNL after parties and has served Lorne Michaels, Paul Rudd, Charlie XCX and Travis Kelce among other celebrities.Taylor Rector -- Taylor performed with TMC from 1996 to 2008, including her role as Tony in the 2001 production of The Talent Machine Show. Taylor directed Legally Blonde for TMC in the summer of 2022, and is now a realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. Her fun fact: she has a collection of crop tops she never wears.Amy Sonntag -- Amy performed with TMC from 1993 to 2002 and traveled the world performing for Disney Live. She teaches tap and musical theater with Dance Connections and Center for Theatrical Arts, and has played Tony, Kay and Mary Ann in various productions of The Talent Machine Show, and in true full-circle fashion, her son is in this year's cast.Tabitha Tuttle -- Tabitha performed with TMC from 2001 to 2013, and was Heidi in the 2005 production of The Talent Machine Show. She is the youngest of six siblings, three of whom are TMC alumni. She met her husband, Keith Tuttle, during their auditions for the Company's production of The Wiz, and they now have a 4-month-old daughter, Isla June.ABOUT OUR COMPANYThe Talent Machine, the premier theater company for children and youth of Central Maryland, has been amazing audiences of all ages for nearly 40 years. We offer highly professional productions filled with talented young singers, dancers and actors. We produce four shows per year, one in the spring, two in the summer and our annual holiday spectacular.Our teen show this year is Curtains: School Edition, featuring performers ages 14 to 18, running from July 10 through 19. Our youth show is The Talent Machine Show: The Show That Started It All, August 14-23, featuring a cast of kids ages 7 to 14. Our annual holiday spectacular -- now a family tradition for many in Central Maryland -- will be offered in December.
