Where: George W. Hawkes Downtown Arlington Library (100 S Center St #327, Arlington, TX 76010) in the [Re]Brary Room B on the first floor
             
Tim’s presentation will focus on urban fracking in Arlington and in other parts of Texas, and the resulting pollution.

Today there are almost 500 gas wells in Arlington with thousands more located in Tarrant county. It is estimated that almost 1 million people or about half the population live within one-half mile of fracking sites.

Please attend this special Earth Month presentation to learn more about the potential hazards and air pollution associated with fracking in the region. Learn how fracking is done, see Optical Gas Imaging videos of local gas well pollution, and discover the role that regulators can and should play. Tim retired from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in 2018, after 31+ years of service. He served as the Agency’s mobile air monitoring manager and optical gas imaging (OGI) and technical air expert for 17 years when he managed all of TCEQ's large-scale mobile air monitoring projects. 
His company provides professional, scientific, thermography, safety, and technical consulting services related, but not limited to state and federal compliance.

In 2023-24 he conducted a comprehensive survey of gas well pollution in Arlington for Earthworks. We will learn more about his alarming findings.

An Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) instrument uses a cooled filter that is calibrated to a narrow range of the magnetic spectrum where hydrocarbons like methane and volatile organic compounds absorb infrared light. As the hydrocarbons absorb infrared light, they appear opaque through the OGI instrument, and the onboard camera records the images.

The event is free and open to the public and is intended for a general audience. Light refreshments will be served.
