The Chocolate Houses We Build is a powerful collection of poetry exploring Okema Gunn’s experiences growing up, reflections on life, and the journeys of 2020 and beyond. The poems speak to friendship, family relationships, cultural identity, history, and the emotional and spiritual spaces we build together as a community.

Okema “Seven” Gunn is an award-winning educator, journalist, and filmmaker whose storytelling celebrates the diverse voices and experiences of the African Diaspora. She is the founder and director of 7 Gunn Media and has taught in both New York City and the Chicagoland area.
