Open to ages 8–18, Matilda JR. is perfect whether your child is taking their very first bow or ready to step further into the spotlight. Rehearsals begin February 7, 2026, primarily on Saturdays from 2:00–6:00 PM, with select Sunday rehearsals from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM for certain actors as the show progresses. There will be no rehearsal on April 5 (Easter). 

Auditions will be held on February 14, and the season will conclude with two performances on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at the newly outfitted AJT Black Box Theater in South Asheville.

Being part of AJT is a commitment. Actors are allowed one scheduled absence only, and tech and dress rehearsals are mandatory during show week. Families are expected to help sell tickets, spread the word, and complete 10 volunteer hours supporting the production. Students are also expected to practice songs, dances, and lines at home. A mandatory parent meeting will be held on February 7 at 2:00 PM.

Tuition is $450 plus a $50 yearly membership fee, due at enrollment. Costumes are included for use during this production only. AJT offers a trial period during the first 2–3 weeks of rehearsal to ensure the program is a good fit for every child; if not, tuition will be refunded minus a non-refundable $100 deposit.

Apply to join AJT on our website, schedule a 10-minute interview/informational call with Director Kelly, register upon acceptance, and prepare a song to perform at auditions on February 14.
