ABOUT THE DANCE SERIES ARTISTS

Panadanza Dance Company utilizes live music, traditional songs, storytelling, and colorful folkloric attire to honor the identities of the Caribbean, Central, and South America. Established in 2008 by Karlies Kelley, a native of Panama, Panadanza performs for a wide range of audiences, and provides a variety of cultural education programs rooted in community building and empowerment. Panadanza’s mission is to awaken the spirit in people of all ages and backgrounds, helping to build trust, confidence, respect, and leadership.

Karlies Kelley is a Panamanian-born and raised multidisciplinary movement artist based in Milwaukee. Her “spiritual-social” approach to performance and education has developed over the past 15 years through work with youth and adults, collaborations with professional artists, and her pursuit of higher education, including a BFA and MFA from UW-Milwaukee. Her training is rooted in international travel and exchange in Cuba, Brazil, Ivory Coast, Japan, Mexico, Panama, and Colombia. These experiences inform her approach to movement as a living expression of memory, resilience, and joy.

Karlies founded Panadanza Dance Company in 2008 with the mission of using dance as a pathway to healing, belonging, and cross-cultural understanding. Her work, including such pieces as “Canal Builders,” “Ola de Memorias,” and “Soy De Aqui Ahora,” navigates traditional, modern, and postmodern forms, engaging diverse communities through dance, music, and storytelling. Throughout the school year, Karlies leads residencies in elementary and middle schools; she also offers weekly workshops and performance opportunities beyond the classroom, cultivating confidence, discipline, and teamwork in her students. For adults, her most popular program is “Magic Mondays,” a dance class with live music that welcomes participants of all levels, centering women while remaining open to all. She encourages participants to explore the space “in between,” where music and movement become one. She was named the 2025 Wisconsin Dance Council Choreography and Performance Artist of the Year.

Kiran Vedula is a musician, producer, and educator who combines electronic music with traditional folk influences from around the world. For the past two decades, he has worked with artists, families, and organizations in Milwaukee, nationally, and abroad creating compositions, performances, and youth programs that are entertaining, vulnerable, and culturally relevant, with a focus on studying culture and history and building community.
