Samen met pianist Alexander Melnikov staat hij garant voor vuurwerk in het Eerste pianoconcerto van Sergej Rachmaninov. De componist herwerkte dit jeugdwerk tot een indrukwekkende compositie met grote romantische gestes en duizelingwekkend pianospel. Met Amy Beach blijven we in de hoogromantiek, maar steken we de oceaan over. Zij ging de geschiedenis in als de eerste vrouwelijke Amerikaanse componist die naam kon maken met groot symfonisch repertoire. Net als Antonín Dvořák ging ze op zoek naar een eigen muziektaal voor de Verenigde Staten: haar ‘Gaelic Symphony’ is in zekere zin een tegenhanger van Dvořáks ‘Uit de nieuwe wereld’. Beach greep terug naar muziek uit Engeland, Ierland en Schotland, waar haar roots lagen. Het Antwerp Symphony Orchestra laat je graag kennismaken met haar warme orkestklanken en uitnodigende melodieën.
