Op 7 februari 2026 overleed Ebo Taylor in Accra. Hij was 90 jaar. Een leven lang muziek, beweging, en een geluid dat grenzen nooit heeft begrepen.

Taylor was een van de architecten van de Ghanese highlife. Zijn gitaar verbond Afrikaanse ritmes met jazz, funk en soul op een manier die generaties artiesten na hem heeft gevoed. In Londen speelde hij zij aan zij met Fela Kuti, de man die Afrobeat zou uitvinden. Thuis in Ghana was hij onafscheidelijk verbonden met Pat Thomas, een andere reus van het genre. Dezelfde Pat Thomas die hier vorig jaar het podium betrad en het publiek inpakte met zijn prachtige muziek en vibes.

Zijn muziek stierf niet met hem. Ze leeft in elke bas, elke groove, elke dansvloer die nog durft te bewegen. Tijdens de Ebo Taylor Celebrations vieren we exact dat.

Geen rouwdienst, wel een viering van wat highlife altijd was: een uitnodiging om samen te zijn.

Jembaa Groove brengt de Afro-dancefloor energie waarvoor ze bekend staan. Fela Kuti Celebration Band houdt de fakkel brandend van de Afrobeat-legende die Taylors tijdgenoot en kompaan was.
