Poet, Interrupted: A Workshop on Surprising Yourself
Join JeFF Stumpo in deliberately throwing a wrench in your writing to spark new images and ideas. We’ll read a couple of examples of poems that surprise, talk about the difference between surprise and shock, and workshop two of your poems - one which we’ll start writing at the workshop itself, and one poem you’ve already written. Bring a copy of your poem (in whatever format will let you safely edit a copy of it) and writing material.
About the Workshop Host:
JeFF Stumpo is an author of five chapbooks of poetry (most published by Seven Kitchens Press). He was on the Slam Free or Die team in 2010, and one of the poems he performed while featuring at The Boston Poetry Slam was included on the promotional CD handed out to participants in the 2011 National Poetry Slam. His work has recently appeared in places like Rattle.com, The Journal, Puerto del Sol, RHINO, DMQ Review, and ANMLY. He used to teach college English. He has a (poor) website at www.JeFFStumpo.com
Covid Safety Guidelines:
Our space is pro safety and pro vaccination. We encourage all unvaccinated individuals to wear masks during our show. We will have disposable masks available for those who need or would like one and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the space. We encourage everyone who comes to our show to take safety precautions necessary for their safety and health.
Accessibility Information:
The entrance to our show is at the back of the building with no stairs to enter the space. There is a ramp through the main bar for access to the ADA compliant bathrooms. For any other accessibility questions message our page or ask a staff member at the show.
About Slam Free Or Die - Poetry Open Mic & Slam:
Slam Free Or Die @ Stark Brewing Company is a series of open mic nights for poets and spoken-word artists every Thursday night in Manchester, NH. There is an open mic every night and poetry slams are also held several times a month. Doors open and sign-ups begin at 7pm with open mic beginning at 8pm. Featured poets and slams follow the open mic. Come and enjoy the delicious food and beverages at Stark Brewing Company! There is a $3-$5 cover charge.
