An Exclusive Paddock Experience

Step beyond the gates and into the herd.

This exclusive small-group experience gives you the rare opportunity to enter selected paddocks and shelters alongside some of the rescued horses, ponies and donkeys who call Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary home.


Unlike our Explore Equines walking tour, Meet the Herd takes you beyond the fences and into the animals' own environment, allowing you to experience the sanctuary from a completely different perspective.


Whether you're bringing a camera, using your phone or simply want to spend peaceful time surrounded by horses, this relaxed guided experience invites you to slow down, observe, listen and connect with the herd.


As you walk through the sanctuary, you'll hear the rescue stories behind many of our residents, discover their unique personalities, learn how horses communicate with one another and observe the gentle interactions that make every herd unique.


There'll be plenty of opportunities to pause, ask questions, take photographs and simply enjoy being present among the animals.

Welcome & Safety (10 minutes)

Before entering the paddocks we'll cover:

• Safe behaviour around horses

• Understanding equine body language

• Respecting each horse's personal space and choices

• Photography etiquette

• What to expect during the experience


Guided Herd Experience (60 minutes)
Accompanied by an experienced sanctuary guide you'll:

? Enter selected paddocks and shelters

? Spend time among rescued horses, ponies and donkeys

? Hear their individual rescue stories

? Observe natural herd behaviour

❤️ Learn how horses communicate and build relationships

? Enjoy plenty of opportunities for photographs

❓ Ask questions throughout

? Experience the peace of the sanctuary after hours


Every visit is unique. We always work around the horses' needs, weather conditions and the daily routines of the sanctuary, allowing the animals to choose how they interact with us.

Bring a camera or simply use your phone.

You may have opportunities to capture:

• Beautiful natural portraits

• Horses grazing freely

• Herd interactions

• Curious noses and gentle moments

• The sanctuary landscape

• Quiet evening light

This isn't a photography workshop. Instead, we create a relaxed environment where you'll have time to enjoy the moment and capture memories naturally.


? Wet Weather
If conditions aren't suitable for entering the paddocks, we'll move into our rescue barn, where you'll still enjoy close encounters with many of our equine residents while hearing their stories in a warm, sheltered environment.
