Blue Rock Hike

The hike to Blue Rock is approximately one half mile from the starting point at Yorty’s Bridge. The walk is mostly level, easy walking along the Union Canal towpath. Depending on the weather, it may be cold and muddy, so please dress appropriately.
We will see the remnants of the Union Canal, concrete forms from the coal dredging operations, and of course Blue Rock. You’ll be able to view this impressive limestone outcropping, which was formed around 450 million years ago, from across the Swatara Creek. We may also see some waterfowl, freshwater clam shells and the black coal silt which was dredged from the creek for many years.
