We get more experienced by attending these sorts of events. You do not need to bring a dance partner. Latin Utopia is a great way to practise what you've been learning in class. And to just relax and enjoy yourself while making some new friends. We were able to play 10 of those that night. I'll continue to work through the request list over the next couple of parties and include what I think will best fit. I'll have to leave out some requests such as "Meatloaf".... We received a lot of requests from people who did not attend. So, I think once I've caught up on the existing requests we'll then only open requests during the party and, in real time, we'll play what we can that party. So far only one song has been requested by more than one person: Amor Divino by Massimo Scalici. It will be interesting to see what other songs get multiple requests and that will be a good indicator of which songs are genuinely popular within our community. One thing that might have been misunderstood: while the request form asks for the name of the person making the request, this is just for my eyes. We are not announcing requested songs. There's no need to write in "Anonymous". I'm looking for a real name so that I know that it's a real request. Over time, the real goal here is to identify the songs with which we as a community really vibe so that you have the best possible experience at Latin Utopia parties. ** Is this for me? ** Everyone is welcome. The experience level of the dancers ranges from those who have been dancing for a week to professional instructors. Dancers from all over Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast typically attend. Sometimes even visitors from interstate. If you have no experience at all with Salsa or Bachata you are still most welcome and there will be dancers in attendance quite happy to show you some basics. You can come solo, with some friends or within your favourite human. When you arrive just go ask someone if they'd like to have a dance! :) ** Entry / How to get your pass ** Entry will be $19/person paid at the door. The door to the studio can be easy to miss: it can be found between Yesterday's Thrift Shop and Lifeline's Vintage Revival. ** What to wear/bring ** As long as you look presentable you're all good to go. Breath mints can be found at the reception desk. Deodorant can be found in the toilets. Always good to smell nice. Some people like to bring a change of shirt in case they get sweaty. If you like to drink something other than water, bring that too. ** Merchandise ** Dance Culture t-shirts are now available in the reception area. Various sizes in stock. Both unisex and ladies cut available.
