About the event

Mount Storth & Killymoon Creek
Townsville Hike and Explore Community!

Join Townsville Hike and Explore and be a part of our regional Outdoor Adventure Community!

Join the Townsville, Hinchinbrook & Burdekin hiking communities to share the outdoor experience on one of my favourite hikes last year, known as “Mount Storth”

While driving south of Townsville between Alligator Creek & AIMS Turnoff, Mount Storth is clearly visible to the west, in the north-eastern extremities of the Bowling Green National Park. Its massive, steep granite cliffs and rock formations at summit level are impressive & invite exploring.

Those lucky enough to join us will be in awe of the endless views as we hike to the summit, & from Mount Storth summit itself. From numerous viewpoints, you will experience 360-degree, uninhibited vistas of the surrounding area & coastal plain between Townsville & the Burdekin.

---------------------------------------------

HIKE: Mount Storth/Killymoon Creek

DISTANCE: 15km (Return)

HIKE TIME: 7/8 Hours (Including Breaks)

MAX ELEVATION: 630m (Mount Storth)

GROUP CAPACITY: 20

---------------------------------------------

Leaving from private property near Killymoon Creek, we’ll hike a section of fire trail before gaining elevation as we bush bash our way up along the eastern ridgelines of Mount Storth & head for the summit. Ridgeline terrain is a mixture of closed scrub & low open-forest & we can explore some of the black granite rock formations & other points of interest along the way!

The summit level of Mount Storth is primarily low open-forest, roughly 200m long & dotted with impressive granite rock formations, some of which are readily climbable.

Summiting Mount Storth is a priceless experience. We will be treated to 360-degree views of the surrounding national park & coastal plain. Saddle Mountain summit is clearly visible to the south. Bowling Green Bay and Cleveland Bay are visible, as is Magnetic Island, Feltham Cone (Mount Burrumbush), Mount Cleveland and Chunda Bay. The little-known Mount Muntalunga (228m) & Mount Matthew (305m) near Nome in the Muntalunga Range are visible, as is Woodstock Hill (234m).

After a break at the summit, we will lose elevation as we bush bash down into “Dribble Creek”, which flows in a general westerly direction into Killymoon Creek on the southern side of Mount Storth. Not long after we reach Killymoon, we’ll take back up with the fire trail & hike back to the start point.

Look forward to seeing you all at what will be another memorable Townsville Hike & Explore adventure!
