Join the group as we hike and explore a rarely visited hidden gem located a short drive west of Townsville, Mount Ellenvale.

Accessible only via private property, Mount Ellenvale is the highest peak in the Mingela State Forest, at 665 metres elevation. The summit is spectacular, covered by hoop pine and massive granite rock formations. 

We will also visit Saint Georges Tree (565m) and Brown Mountain (595m) along the way. As we will already be hiking at elevation, minimal gain will be required to visit these 2 other peaks.

This hike offers superb views of the surrounding countryside west of Townsville, the Reid River catchment, Plant Hill, Mount Prince Charlie, with many other peaks and rock formations clearly visible.

There will be some steep inclines and declines, but the terrain is quite beautiful and rarely visited, so well worth the effort.

This hike is suitable for average fitness levels and above.

The hike will involve OFF TRAIL hiking 

The total DISTANCE of this event will be ~16km

The TIME this event will take depends on group dynamics, however we estimate ~8 hours at a moderate pace with breaks and allowing everyone to explore the area.

The GROUP SIZE of this event will be ~15.

We will MEET at the Annandale Shopping Centre (KFC Carpark) at 6am sharp for a pre-hike/safety briefing and to organise carpooling to the start point. It’s approximately 30 minutes drive to the start point.

Please BE ON TIME and considerate of your fellow attendees by changing your RSVP if you cannot attend. 

Please be open to CARPOOLING to reduce our environmental impact and traffic on the road.
