- **Event Description**: Saddle Mountain WW2 Plane Wreck Hike 

Join us on an ANZAC Day historical hike to the crash site of a World War II-era Mosquito reconnaissance plane near Saddle Mountain, south of Townsville.

We'll start our journey near the Bruce Highway and hike through steep, hilly terrain. As we ascend, we'll traverse sections of grass tree, scrubby, and rocky country, eventually reaching an adjacent ridgeline. From there, we'll make our way into the dense rainforest near the summit of Saddle Mountain.

Upon reaching the summit, we'll continue to the crash site, where we'll spend some time exploring and reflecting on the historical significance of the area. Please remember, nothing at the crash site is to be removed. The historical importance of this site cannot be overstated. If you feel tempted to take anything, this hike isn't for you.

The views along the way are breathtaking, and we've marked a few great viewpoints for you to enjoy.

Please note that this is a full-day hike to an elevation of over 800 meters through challenging terrain. You must not only be interested in seeing the wreckage but also be physically capable of completing the hike safely.

HIKE: ANZAC Day Saddle Mountain (Plane Crash Site)

DISTANCE: ~16km

TIME: ~10 Hours (Including at least 1 hour at the crash site)

MAX ELEVATION: ~800m

MAX GROUP: 12 (Including Walk Leader)

FITNESS LEVEL: Full day, experienced hikers

This hike will be lead at a MODERATE pace with REQUESTED breaks as required by the group.

The hike will be entirely OFF Trail.

You will need to carry sufficient water for the entire hike. There are no fill points along the way.

Meeting Time/Place:

We will meet at the Annandale Central Shopping Centre (KFC Carpark) at 6am to arrange carpooling.

Please be on time and open to carpooling. We will be departing the meeting point no later than 6.10am

What to bring?

I’d recommend you bring the following:

-3/4 litres of water (minimum) *There are no refill points on this hike.

-Long Pants and Shirt (Dryfit recommended)

-Appropriate footwear (low/mid cut hiking boots recommended)

-Gaiters (recommended)

-Hat and Suncream

-Morning Tea, Lunch and Afternoon Tea

-Snacks & Electrolyes (if required)

-Camera

-First Aid Kit (Snake Bite Kit if you have one)

-Bushmans/Rid

-PLB (if you have one)

-Headlamp and Spare Batteries (Just in case we hike out late)

-Secateurs (mandatory)

-Prone to cramps? Crampfix/Magnesium etc
