Michelle and the Ann Arbor Polonia Association invite folks to reinterpret a thousand-year-old Slavic cultural tradition on the mythological figure of Marzanna (the goddess of winter, disease, and death). Together we will construct effigies from natural materials, march with them alongside a live singing choir, and sacrifice them in Willow Pond.
Effigy Building Workshop: 12pm - 2pm (registration is required)
Effigy Sacrifice: 2pm - 3pm (open to the public)
Reception: 3 - 5pm
This event is all ages, free to attend, and all materials will be provided.
Please note a portion of this event will take place outdoors and requires walking on a trail. Dress weather accordingly and wear winter/hiking shoes. Also note, this event will be video-documented.
Location: Matthaei Botanical Gardens, 1800 N Dixboro Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105
