Grand retour du trio mancunien ???? ???????, qui fusionne de manière inspirante les influences du jazz, de la musique classique et de l'électronique. Le groupe revient avec un nouvel album puissant, Necessary Fictions. On y retrouve le pianiste Chris Illingworth, le bassiste Nick Blacka et le batteur Jon Scott, explorant en profondeur leur intériorité pour atteindre « ce que nous pensons être nos qualités essentielles et authentiques à cet instant précis ». Cette recherche les amène à certaines de leurs compositions les plus audacieuses à ce jour, intégrant à leur son des synthétiseurs modulaires, le Moog Grandmother et une basse électrique. Ils oscillent ainsi avec brio entre une instrumentation acoustique et de l’electronica propulsée par une batterie intense. Sincère et percutant, Necessary Fictions fait entendre le groupe à son meilleur niveau.
