- **Event Description**: April 24th and May 1st, 2026 - Students and families are invited to celebrate the arrival of spring with the annual tradition of sheep shearing. This student-focused event explores how pioneers turned wool into clothing and features hands-on activities and immersive learning experiences with Appalachian artisans, educators, and musicians!

Sheep Shearing is the centerpiece of an event that includes a host of pioneer demonstrations, including sheep shearing, sheep herding, dollmaking, broom-making, coopering, wood carving, quilting, beekeeping, and dozens more. Interactive activities include spelling bees, painting, an animal meet-and-greet, shape-note singing, storytelling, and more. 

This event will also feature live bluegrass music, on-site food options, and a self-guided tour of the museum itself. Each Museum of Appalachia tour features three dozen historic log structures, exhibit halls brimming with thousands of authentic Appalachian artifacts, working gardens, and farm animals.
