Skyra has Biliary Atresia
This is a rare but serious liver disorder affecting newborns, where the bile ducts, which carry bile from the liver to the small intestine, become blocked or are absent. This blockage prevents bile from leaving the liver, leading to liver damage and potential liver failure if not treated. 

At 3 weeks old she had her gallbladder removed, and The Kasai procedure, also known as portoenterostomy, is a surgical operation performed on infants with biliary atresia, a condition where bile ducts are blocked. The procedure involves connecting a portion of the small intestine directly to the liver, bypassing the blocked bile ducts to allow bile to flow more freely. While not a cure, the Kasai procedure can significantly improve the infant's condition and potentially delay or even eliminate the need for a liver transplant.
