Dr. Tonia Dousay
Learning and Living with AI
Thursday, March 19, 6:30-7:30 PM | Wilda Marston Theatre
Artificial intelligence is no longer science fiction—it’s in our phones, our shopping carts, and our classrooms. In this talk, Dr. Tonia Dousay, Dean of the UAA School of Education, unpacks what AI really is (and isn’t), explores how teachers and students are already utilizing it, and tackles significant questions about ethics, bias, and the future of learning. With stories that range from Neal Stephenson’s The Diamond Age to real examples from Alaska classrooms, she invites us to imagine how AI can support—not replace—the human side of education.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Tonia Dousay, is a first-generation college graduate and daughter of two U.S. Navy veterans. She earned a B.S. in Agricultural Science and M.S. in Agricultural Education from Texas A&M University, and a Ph.D. in Learning, Design & Technology from the University of Georgia, inspired by experiential and nontraditional approaches to learning. With over 20 years of experience in PK-20, industry, and military learning environments, she has taught at the University of Wyoming and University of Idaho, serving as Associate Dean for Assessment & Accreditation, and now leads the University of Alaska Anchorage School of Education as Dean.
