- **Event Description**: Join us for Featured Firsts at Turnagain Ceramics! Each first Friday, we hold an opening reception for a different local ceramic artist, featuring a free community throw! Our front gallery is a treasure trove of pottery and ceramic art that our studio members lovingly handcraft. From plates, mugs, and bowls to jewelry and sculpture, our gallery has it all!

This February, our featured artists are Reyne Athanas and Jeremy Potter! 

Jeremy Potter is from Chicago, IL, and has lived in Anchorage since 2023. He began his ceramics journey a decade ago by taking classes at a community studio in Chicago with his grandma. Jeremy’s work primarily focuses on large forms, and he draws inspiration from mountains, the colors of nature, his wife, and their pets. Jeremy believes in going big or going home! He enjoys experimenting with marbled clay bodies, pushing clay to its limits, getting his hands dirty while making something useful, and combining glazes to create movement.  You can find his work on Instagram @potterspotts. Outside of the studio, Jeremy enjoys keeping up with the Juventus Futbol Club, skiing, and spending time with his dog.

Art has always been an integral part of Reyne’s life. She knew early on that her career would be in the arts and education. Reyne has taught kindergarten to graduate level art and enjoyed every minute of it. Working with clay has been a lifelong passion for Reyne, and she loves working in watercolor and batik.

“It’s the immediate gratification of making something and the anticipation of completing it. It is important to me as an artist to be constantly exploring new ways to create and to push the edges. It is paramount to me to promote all the arts and support fellow artisans.”
