The portion of Ship Creek from the C Street bridge upstream to The Bridge Restaurant is designated by the State of Alaska as a youth-only fishery for kids ages 15 and under from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Schedule:

6:00 am: Ship Creek “Youth Only Fishery” opens for youth-only fishing.

*Based on the tide, the time for the best fishing on Saturday, June 20 will be roughly 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. It’s a small tide this year: 25.7 ft.

2:30 pm: Line up along the pedestrian bridge for a group photo, gift bags and hot dogs. The line will start at The Bait Shack. Once we get a group photo we will have the kids move through the Shack area to receive a hot dog, chips and Powerade.  There will also be limited number of swag bags for the first 300 anglers.  These bags are filled with fun fishing items, coloring books, bubbles and even some lucky golden tickets.  

There will be limited sets of fishing gear for youth anglers to use for FREE.  The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will also be present issuing out limited sets of fishing gear and providing bait for anglers.  

11:00 pm: Creek closes to fishing and reopens Sunday at 6 a.m. to all anglers.

This event coincides with the Slam'n Salm'n Derby, which includes a Youth class. Derby tickets must be purchase prior to fishing, and are available at The Bait Shack.
