About the event

No RTC on Strum in 2025
In response to Trump's proposed trade tariffs and repeated threats to annex Canada as the 51st American state, Strum will not be racing RTC in 2025. We thank the 11 crew who confirmed for this event, and look forward to racing with you all next season. Elbows up!

This Event is for potential crew for the Nov08-09, 2025 Round The County Race (RTC) on the Riptide50 Strum, our last race of the season. To be considered for crew, please select GOING. Select INTERESTED if you cannot commit, and we will call you if needed. Please keep in mind that the 2025 American trade hostilities may affect Strum's participation in this event. ABOUT

ABOUT (2025 RTC)
The Orcas Island Yacht Club and the Friday Harbor Sailing Club invite you to participate in the 38th annual "ROUND THE COUNTY" (RTC) sailboat race. This event will be held November 8th and 9th, 2025 in the gorgeous and challenging waters of San Juan County Washington. The race is approximately 76 miles with an overnight stop in Roche Harbor, San Juan Island. Due to the great venue, the better winds of November, and the overnight stop in Roche Harbor, the race has become one of the more popular in the Pacific Northwest.

ABOUT (CHANGES FROM 2024)
The following are the key changes made to the Notice of Race for the 2025 race:
1. Boats that sailed in DIV 1 PHRF in 2024 will be in an ORC fleet this year. If you don't have an ORC cert you'll need to get one.
2. Your chart plotter needs to be able to display AIS transmission from other boats and commercial traffic.
3. There might be other things so please read the NOR.

ABOUT (SKIPPERS COMMENTS)
All crew are expected to be available for practice sails, prep and Fri/Mon deliveries. Strum crew to be on board 4pm Friday in Anacortes to help rig up, with mandatory 6pm cocktails Fri (on Strum) & Sat (at skippers hotel room) before 8pm crew dinner reservations Fri (@Anthony’s) & Sat (@McMillian’s). Mrs Strum will be our SUV shore support, so we have the ability to race without cushions, coolers, & extra sails/weight not needed, if we all pull together. She can also carpool crew to/from Vancouver for those that cannot help deliver Strum.

ABOUT (STRUM/FLEET)
With over 129 boats registered in 2024 (with Strum having the 6th fastest rating), RTC is the second largest sailing event in the PNW (2024 Swiftsure was 132 boats).
Most of the fleet will be racing PHRF-NW (Strum rates -77 w/new main sail), but we raced in the 2024 ORC-A 13 boat fleet with the big boys. Strum raced RTC in 2007, 2014, 2015, 2022, 2023 & 2024, so we are in familiar waters. This will be Strum's last race of our 2025 season.

RTC 2022
GREAT SAILING!!! Good starts, great weather, cooperative currents and enough wind for 67 boats to finish the long course both days. Certainly better wind than the forecast suggested. Most were able to finish in sunshine. It was a super great weekend on the water! Thanks for coming and we hope to see you again in 2023.
