- **Event Description**: Dive into the world of kelp and discover how this ocean superhero keeps the Salish Sea healthy and thriving.About this EventDr. Randell leads the Coastal Climate Resilience (CCR) research program at the Seattle Aquarium, leveraging small, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), equipped with cameras, sensors, and open-source AI tools, to conduct high‑resolution video and photo surveys of kelp forests and other benthic habitats in shallow coastal waters (5–40 m depth). The program’s goals are to expand benthic data collection, efficiently extract ecological data using AI, integrate ROV data with broader environmental datasets (e.g., diver surveys, drones, satellites), and share all protocols and resources openly to foster collaboration.Reservations for this lecture will open at 9:00 am on Friday, February 27th, 2026.Please note that reservations are required.Doors will open at 6:15pm. Please arrive to the lobby for check in no later than 6:50pm, as the lecture will start promptly at 7pm. Those who arrive after 6:50pm may lose their reservations.
