An interactive evening of community and choral singing
The Road Home takes you on an inner and shared journey through music, memories, and stories. Sung by voices from different backgrounds, united in one sound. It’s not just a concert; it’s a soulful experience that guides you on a road home.
During this evening, we embark on a shared quest for what ‘home’ means. Stories will be told by migrants and Dutch people, and these stories will be accompanied by choral music from two choirs. The evening will be interactive; the audience is invited to share their thoughts, participate, and sing along.
We will gather in the Doopsgezinde Singelkerk. Built in 1639, this church has been a gathering place for liberal and active members and friends for hundreds of years. The church is a prime example of a so-called clandestine church: a church that is not recognisable as such from the street. Upon entering, you will be surprised by the old and unique interior. A setting that in itself tells a story.
The workshop
Before the concert there will be a workshop in which we will come together and learn a few songs. Those songs we´ll perform during the concert. Besides that there will be some guided improvisation, using the Vocal Painting method. The workshop is open for all levels. We specifically would like to invite migrants for this workshop to bring a connection between new Amsterdammers and Amsterdammers. The workshop can only be attended in combination with the concert.
Rather only come for the concert? That’s also possible. Make sure to buy the right ticket via the ticketlink.
