West.

Het gesprek, gemodereerd door curator Caroline Dumalin (WIELS) cirkelt rond de vraag hoe kunstenaars, kunstinstellingen en beleidsmakers omgaan met de veranderende rol van en het veranderende discours over innovatie.

ENG | What is the role of the arts in a world that is constrantly speeding up? Can artistic innovation still function as a source of critique? And how should we understand the relationship between art, innovation and history? Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond and Valiz present a programme around the publication 'The Future of the New—Artistic Innovation in Times of Social Acceleration', published by Valiz, Amsterdam and West Den Haag.

Philosopher of culture and editor of the book Thijs Lijster reflects on the role of ‘the new’ in art in his introductory lecture, followed by a panel discussion. Moderator Caroline Dumalin (curator at Wiels) will speak with Annabelle Birnie (director Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst), Fadwa Naamna (artist and curator), Carolyn F. Strauss (director, Slow Research Lab) and Juha van ‘t Zelfde (DJ, curator, educator and organizer) about the changing role and the changing discourse on artistic innovation.
